Former Rep. Erik Fresen sentenced for failing to file tax returns

Member of Florida House of Representatives didn't file tax returns for 8 years

MIAMI-DADE, Fla. – Former Miami state Rep. Erik Fresen was sentenced Friday to one year of probation with 60 intermittent days in prison for failing to file a tax return for 2011.

Fresen, a Republican who represented the 114th district in the Florida House of Representatives from 2012 to 2016, pleaded guilty in April.

He also admitted to failing to pay taxes on unreported income received from 2007 through 2013. Prosecutors said he failed to pay $214,766 in federal income taxes. 

U.S. District Judge Robert Scola ordered him to report to prison in mid-November, December, January and February to serve 15 days each month. He remains subject to IRS penalties.
