'He has a mental retardation,' sister of Pembroke Pines man arrested on child porn charges says

$25,000 bond set for Alberto Blanco

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The sister of a Pembroke Pines man accused of downloading child pornography said Thursday that her brother is mentally disabled.

Pembroke Pines police said a tip from Google alerted them to Alberto Blanco, who was arrested Wednesday on child porn charges.

Blanco, 42, appeared in court Thursday for a bond hearing.

Police said that Blanco got nervous when a detective came to his apartment and admitted that he'd done something wrong.

"He's not guilty," Blanco's sister said. "He has a mental retardation."

Blanco's sister, mother and father were in court and said that Blanco was diagnosed with his disability when he was 1.

Blanco's attorney said his client cannot read or write, and he gets a disability check. He asked the court to lower the $25,000 bond amount.

Police said Blanco used a Google Plus account to chat with children.

Local 10 News has learned that Blanco had a Facebook page that was used to chat with children as well.

If Blanco posts bond, he will not be allowed access to the internet or electronic devices, won't be allowed near children and will have to wear a monitoring device.
