Knife found on rear floorboard of vehicle, according to officers

HIALEAH, Fla. – A Hialeah man faces a second-degree murder charge, a week after he killed his wife after they drove to City Hall to file for divorce, authorities said.

According to an arrest report, officers responded to a call the morning of Dec. 6 about a man and a woman who were found bleeding profusely inside a car outside City Hall on Palm Avenue and Fifth Street.

Police said Luis Palacios-Madariaga's wife, who wasn't identified in the arrest report, was bleeding and unresponsive in the driver's seat.

Palacios-Madariaga, 28, spontaneously told an officer at the scene, "Don't save me. I have a knife and I want you to kill me," the report stated.

Police said the suspect was removed from the car and treated for injuries to his wrists and chest before being taken to a hospital.

Police said Palacios-Madariaga was later questioned by detectives, and said that he and his wife had been married for nearly two years.

Palacios-Madariaga claimed that the couple had been arguing recently because he believed his wife was seeing another man, authorities said.

According to police, Palacios-Madariaga said they were arguing while driving to the courthouse and he became enraged after they had parked.

Further statements from Palacios-Madariaga were redacted from the arrest report, but authorities said a knife was recovered from the rear floorboard of the vehicle, where the suspect was found by officers.
