Robbery captured on surveillance video

HIALEAH, Fla. – A 28-year-old man was arrested Monday, a day after committing an armed robbery at a GameStop store in Hialeah, authorities said.

According to an arrest report, Kelvin Mejia entered the store at 7855 NW 27th Ave. shortly before 1:30 p.m. Sunday and pretended to shop.

Police said Mejia walked up to the cashier and pretended that he wanted to pay for several items, but then pulled out a handgun and walked around the counter.

Police said he ordered the employee to open the cash register.

The victim complied, and Mejia left with cash and several video games, the report said.

Police said Mejia fled in a black four-door vehicle.

He was found by Hialeah police on Monday at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where he was being held on unrelated charges by Miami-Dade police.

Authorities said Mejia has a previous arrest history for traffic violations, possession of cocaine and marijuana, grand theft, burglary, uttering a forged instrument, obstruction of justice, trespassing and false imprisonment, among others.

Mejia now faces charges of armed robbery, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and displaying a firearm during the commission of a felony.
