George Selimos says roommate struck by shrapnel from exploding flare

George Selimos is accused of shooting his roommate in the face.

LIGHTHOUSE POINT, Fla. – A Lighthouse Point man was arrested earlier this week after he shot his roommate in the face, police said.

The victim told police he returned home and was unloading groceries in the kitchen Monday when he heard a loud bang and then felt a burning on his right cheek. He said he turned around and saw his roommate, George Selimos, 54, facing him, standing with his arms extended in an apparent shooting stance and a white hand towel draped over his hands.

"What the hell was that?" the victim asked Selimos, according to the police report.

Selimos told his roommate that a flare exploded in his hands and that a piece of shrapnel struck the victim in his face, police said.

Police were called and said they found no evidence of an exploding flare at the home.

After obtaining a search warrant, police found a gun in the suspect's bedroom closet, along with a loaded magazine.

Selimos was arrested on charges of attempted murder, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon and violation of probation.
