MIRAMAR, Fla. - A 23-year-old man was taken to a hospital in critical condition after he was shot early Friday morning during a home invasion, Miramar police Detective Carlos Villalona said.

Ryan Zuleta, the victim's younger brother, told Local 10 News that Juan Carlos Zuleta, was being treated in the intensive care unit at Memorial Regional Hospital, but doctors believe he will survive his injuries.

Zuleta said two armed intruders entered an unlocked door at the home in the 2600 block of Acapulco Drive at about 12:45 a.m. and made demands.

"They tried to get into the room that my brother was in at the time," Zuleta said. "My brother tried to hold it shut, and the dudes shot through the door."

Zuleta was one of three people inside the home at the time.

"He's never purposely out there looking for trouble," Zuleta said of his older brother.

The family dog was also shot and taken to Hollywood Animal Hospital.

Zuleta was not sure if the intruders stole anything before fleeing the scene.

Anyone with information about the home invasion and shooting is asked to call Broward County County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
