Man distracts Fort Lauderdale homeowner while thief ransacks home, police say

Thieves steal $13,000 worth of jewelry

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Fort Lauderdale police are warning homeowners about a recent scam in which a homeowner was robbed of more than $13,000 worth of jewelry.

Police said the victim was approached by a man about 2:30 p.m. March 23, who asked if he could spray for pests along his fence on behalf of the victim's rear neighbor.

Police said the homeowner accompanied the man to his backyard while another man entered his home through the front door and stole more than $13,000 worth of jewelry.

Police said the men left in an older-model white pickup truck.
