Man fatally struck by hit-and-run driver while crossing Oakland Park Boulevard

Detectives believe vehicle that struck man is Jeep Liberty

LAUDERDALE LAKES, Fla. – A man was fatally struck by a hit-and-run driver while trying to cross Oakland Park Boulevard early Sunday morning in Lauderdale Lakes.

The victim was identified Friday as Anthony Presley, 56.

Broward Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Keyla Concepcion said the vehicle was traveling west in the 3400 block of Oakland Park Boulevard when Presley was struck. Concepcion said the driver fled the scene.

"This is the second time somebody got hit and killed," Isaac Rollins, who lives in the area, said.

Residents in the area say people often jaywalk on the usually busy Oakland Park Boulevard.

About 700 yards separates the nearest intersections with safe crosswalks.

Detectives confirmed that Presley was crossing mid-block at about 1:30 a.m.

Detectives believe the vehicle that struck the man was a 2002 to 2007 Jeep Liberty.

Investigators said the vehicle should have damage to the front driver's side, including the bumper and headlight. The driver's side fender cover was recovered at the scene and should be missing from the vehicle.

Anyone with information about the hit-and-run crash is asked to call BSO detectives at 954-321-4845 or Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS. A reward of up to $3,000 is offered for information that leads to an arrest.
