Man refuses to stop, crashes car in Islamorada

Jason Dyer eventually calls 911, says he's hurt

ISLAMORADA, Fla. – A Miami man is facing charges after he refused to pull over during an attempted traffic stop before crashing his car early Sunday in the Florida Keys, according to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Becky Herrin said a deputy spotted a white BMW traveling about 90 mph in Marathon and attempted to stop the car, but the driver refused to stop and instead sped up.

Deputies didn't pursue the car because of the speed at which it was traveling.

Eventually, the driver, identified as Jason Dyer, 38, crashed the BMW, causing it to overturn and land upside down in Islamorada.

Herrin said Dyer fled the crash scene but soon called 911 to say that he was injured and needed help.

Dyer was taken to Mariners Hospital in Tavernier and later booked into jail. He faces charges of fleeing and eluding police and leaving the scene of a crash causing property damage.
