Man stabs ex-girlfriend to death inside Hialeah apartment, police say

Woman calls 911 after noticing front door is broken

HIALEAH, Fla. – A woman was stabbed to death last week by her ex-boyfriend inside her apartment in Hialeah, authorities said.

According to an arrest report, the victim returned home from work shortly before 10 p.m. Friday when she noticed her front door had been broken into.

Police said the woman called 911, but was ambushed by her ex-boyfriend, who was waiting inside for her.

Authorities said Robert Rivero-Diaz, 51, used a crowbar to break into the apartment on East 16th Street and armed himself with a knife.

Police said Rivero-Diaz ambushed the victim when she entered her apartment, stabbing her multiple times.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said Rivero-Diaz fled the scene with the knife before police arrived and crashed his vehicle into a light pole.

He was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he was interviewed by detectives.

Rivero-Diaz faces charges of first-degree murder and armed burglary.
