Man steals $5,500 bicycle from Deerfield Beach store

Employee says man gave him car key as incentive to return

DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. – The Broward Sheriff's Office is searching for a man who rode off with a $5,500 bicycle over the weekend from a store in Deerfield Beach.

The incident was reported shortly before noon Saturday at The Bicycle Generation at 1346 E. Hillsboro Blvd.

According to an incident report, a customer who identified himself as Billy entered the store and asked to browse bicycles.

A store employee told deputies that Billy had been in the store before and was looking for a particular bike.

The employee told Billy that the store did not have the bike in stock, but recommended others.

Deputies said the employee allowed Billy to test ride a bike, and Billy left his car key as an incentive to return to the store.

The employee said Billy returned shortly after riding the first bike and test rode a second bike valued at $5,500.

He never returned with the second bike, deputies said.

According to the report, the employee and deputies searched for the Mazda vehicle to which the key belonged, but could not find it.

Billy is described as a white man in his mid-30s. He was last seen wearing a gray shirt and blue shorts.
