MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Miami-Dade police are searching for a man they said shot a pregnant woman early this month.
Police said doctors at Jackson Memorial Hospital were forced to deliver Heidy Bowen's daughter early, but the baby died Wednesday at just 12 days old.
The newborn had not yet been given a name by her mother and was listed at the hospital as "Infant Baby Bowen."
Bowen, 27, remains hospitalized in critical, but stable condition.
Detectives believe Wayne Collier, 28, shot Bowen the morning of Nov. 3 outside a home on Northwest 49th Street near Northwest 19th Avenue.
Police found out about the shooting about 5:15 a.m. through the Shot Spotter system, a microphone that detects the sound of gunfire in high-crime areas and tells police the location.
"It's not really the best neighborhood, so it's not really too shocking," a neighbor told Local 10 News.
Police said Bowen knew Collier, but the nature of their relationship wasn't immediately clear.
Collier faces charges of first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder.
Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS. A reward of up to $3,000 is offered for information that leads to an arrest.
