Man who shot gas station manager believed to have robbed second convenience store

Dania Beach robbery reported day before shooting

DANIA BEACH, Fla. – A robber who shot a 70-year-old man last week at a gas station in Deerfield Beach is believed to have robbed a convenience store in Dania Beach a day before at gunpoint, authorities said.

The armed robbery was reported about 6 p.m. Nov. 20 at Gas-n-Go at 1040 S. Federal Highway.

Broward Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Joy Oglesby said detectives believe that the same man is seen on surveillance video the next day at a Mobil gas station at 1200 W. Hillsboro Blvd. in Deerfield Beach getting into an altercation with the manager.

An employee at the store told deputies that she saw the gunman walk toward the back of the store and then heard him and her manager yelling at each other in the back office.

The woman said ran to the office and saw the suspect and her manager engaged in a physical confrontation and saw that the robber was holding a black handgun.

The woman told deputies that her manager was struggling to keep the gun away from him.

Deputies said the employee ran out of the store and heard a gunshot.

Deputies said the victim was shot in the right ear. The bullet went through the back of his ear, just missing his head.

He was taken to Broward Health North to be treated and has since been released.

Witnesses told deputies that they saw the gunman leave in a newer-model, silver sedan.

Anyone with information about either incident is asked to call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
