MARATHON, Fla. – A Marathon woman was arrested last week after she tried to extort her husband for money, Monroe County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Becky Herrin announced Sunday.
Herrin said deputies were notified July 22 about the allegations by the victim, who is the owner of the Wooden Spoon restaurant in Marathon.

Herrin said the victim played Deputy Aaron Coller several recordings from his answering machine of his ex-wife, Elizabeth "Betty" Langdon, requesting that he put her on the books as an employee and pay her $25 an hour.
Langdon, 58, told him that if he didn't comply with her requests by July 25 then she would report him to the IRS for his "nefarious" business practices, Herrin said.
Deputies obtained a warrant for Langdon's arrest and she was taken into custody on Tuesday on an extortion charge.
