MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Police are searching for a group of robbers who stormed a jewelry booth at a northwest Miami-Dade County flea market, using sledgehammers to smash the display cases.
The robbery was reported Oct. 23 at the Gold R Us booth inside the Flea Market USA on Northwest 79th Street.
Surveillance video released Thursday shows five men, one of them armed with a rifle, barge inside the booth and smashing the display cases to remove the jewelry.
"Just want to see tomorrow. Want to see tomorrow," the store owner, who didn't want to be identified, said he was thinking during the ordeal. "Just want to see my baby."
One of the men pointed his gun at an employee's face during the robbery and appeared to pull the trigger, but the gun apparently jammed.
Miami-Dade police said the men ordered everyone inside to get on the ground while they ransacked the business.
Police said the men got away in a waiting white minivan, taking an undetermined amount of cash and jewelry. The minivan was last seen traveling east on Northwest 79th Street.
Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call police or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
