Miami Beach man threatens on Twitter to kill President-elect Donald Trump, police say

Dominic Puopolo, 51, to undergo mental evaluation

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. ā€“ A Miami Beach man was arrested Tuesday, a day after he threatened on Twitter to kill President-elect Donald Trump.

According to an arrest report, Dominic Puopolo, 51, posted a video on his Twitter page, where he said, "This is the 16th of January 2017. I will be at the review/inauguration and I will kill President Trump, President-elect Trump today."

The Miami Herald confirmed that Puopolo's mother, Sonia Morales Puopolo, was killed in the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, when Mohamed Atta crashed American Airlines Flight 11 into the North Tower of the World Trade Center.

Sonia Morales Puopolo's funeral was eulogized by Hillary Clinton.

Police said Puopolo was found Tuesday leaving a Subway on Washington Avenue and was detained in the 200 block of Fifth Street.

He was taken to the Miami Beach Police Department, where he confessed to detectives that he stated on Twitter that he would kill Trump, the report said.

Puopolo was arrested on a charge of threatening to harm a public servant.

He appeared Wednesday in court, where his defense attorney told Miami-Dade County Judge Mindy Glazer that his client is mentally ill and also goes by the name Jesus Christ.

Glazer ordered a mental evaluation for Puopolo. If he is deemed competent, his bond will be set at $1 million.Ā

Puopolo is being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
