Winters told the deputy he had gotten a job on Cudjoe Key and was driving back to Miami, but he wasn't able to provide any information about his employer or where he was working, Herrin said.

A background check revealed that Winters had a suspended driver's license for being a habitual traffic offender, Herrin said. A gun, Xanax, marijuana and drug paraphernalia were also found in his vehicle, Herrin said.

Winters, who is a felon, had outstanding warrants in Miami-Dade County for grand theft auto. He faces other charges that include driving with a suspended license and being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.
