Numerous car thefts reported in Cooper City gated community

At least five vehicles reported stolen within month

COOPER CITY, Fla. – A South Florida community is on edge after numerous car thefts were reported in their neighborhood.

"We live here because it's supposedly a great community," one of the victims, Brian Feuer, said. "It's great for the kids, and if we can't have our kids play outside and leave our garages open, we might as well move."

Feuer said both of his cars were stolen from his driveway two weeks ago in Cooper City's Monterra community.

"In the morning, (my) wife decides to go to the gym, gets dressed, hits the keypad, opens up the garage to go to the gym (and) both cars are gone," Feuer said.

Feuer believes the thieves took his keys right from the hook in the garage while he was out jogging around the neighborhood with his wife, or that someone used his garage door opener to get to the keys and take the cars from the driveway.

Residents in the community received a letter informing them that at least four vehicles have been stolen in the last 30 days.

At least one vehicle theft has been reported since that letter was sent.

The Broward Sheriff's Office is investigating the crime spree, and it's unclear how the thieves are getting inside the gated community.

Feuer said both of his cars were found banged up, one in Lauderhill and the other in Plantation.

"It also had a broken back window and had wrappers of coins in the back seat and had a manual for a safe," Feuer said.

Anyone with information about the vehicle thefts is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
