Person of interest detained in fatal Lauderhill shooting

Witness says gunman walked home after shooting 2 men

LAUDERHILL, Fla. – A person of interest has been detained after one man was killed and another was injured Thursday night in a shooting in Lauderhill.

"He shot over seven times in that car, bruh -- over seven times," a man, who did not want to be identified, said. "This man shot my dawg over seven times."

The man told Local 10 News that he watched his friend die Thursday night on Northwest Second Street.

"This is our childhood street. That's why we, all of us, come over here for one purpose -- just to chill, fire it up, talk, hang, chill, hang out. We don't cause any ruckus over here. It's not like we're robbing anyone," he said.

The man said police were in the neighborhood twice Thursday night. He said they were first there about a complaint that he and his group of friends were getting too loud on sidewalk.

He said the second call came after he said a neighbor unloaded his gun into his friend's car.

"I just heard the gunshots," Maya Fleming, who called 911, said.

Fleming said she heard nearly a dozen shots and then hit the floor before she called 911.

"It was one boy. He got out of the car and was just lying on the sidewalk," she said.

That victim's blood still stained the sidewalk Friday.

Police said one man was pronounced dead inside a car and the man on the sidewalk was taken to Broward Health Medical Center.

Police said they detained a person of interest and recovered a gun at the scene.

The victims' car, which had a shattered back window, was eventually towed.

Local 10 News reporter Layron Livingston knocked on the front door to the possible shooter’s home, but no one answered.

"(He) walked right back into his house, bruh. He didn't have any remorse for my dawg, bruh. Shot my dawg over seven times," the witness said.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
