Police search for armed robber who shot man in face

Shooting leaves victim in critical condition at Jackson Memorial Hospital

MIAMI

Miami-Dade police are searching for an armed robber who shot a man in the face over the weekend, leaving him in critical condition.

The shooting happened Saturday as the victim was getting into his car after leaving Tony's Food Market at 2541 NW 95th St.

The shooter can be seen in surveillance video riding up to the victim on a bicycle.

Miami-Dade police said the man demanded money, but because of a language barrier, the victim didn't understand the robber's demands.

The victim, now identified as Diego Suarez-Perez, was shot in the face, but he was able to run off. He is being treated at Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center.

Suarez-Perez's stepmother told Local 10 News that he is from Cuba and has a girlfriend and daughter.

The gunman is described as being 30 to 40 years old, about 6 feet 2 inches and weighing 180 pounds.

Anyone with information is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
