Santos was arrested Wednesday by Broward Sheriff's Office deputies.

Detectives said Santos was babysitting Makenzie Nevarez when he struck the girl's head against a wooden bed post, causing her death.

Makenzie's mother returned home to find her baby unresponsive and called 911.

Paramedics rushed Makenzie to Broward Health North. She was then airlifted to Broward Health Medical Center, where she was placed on a ventilator. She died four days later on Oct. 28.

Two other children were removed from the home and were staying with family members.
