1 at large, 2 arrested after chase, police-involved shooting in southwest Miami-Dade

2 children, woman hurt during chase

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – What started as a police chase Monday afternoon in southwest Miami-Dade County resulted in an officer-involved shooting, two arrests and three victims being taken to an area hospital.

By nightfall, a manhunt was underway.

It all started when undercover officers stopped a car that was driving erratically in a neighborhood near Southwest 268th Street and Southwest 134th Avenue, Miami-Dade police Detective Jennifer Capote said.

Officers attempted to pull the black Honda Accord over, but the driver would not comply and a chase ensued, Capote said.

At one point during the chase, the driver of the Accord struck a Chrysler 200 with a 35-year-old woman and two boys, ages 10 and 9, inside, Capote said.

When officers approached the accident scene, the occupants of the Accord fled and opened fire at the officers, Capote said. The officers returned fire.

Nobody was struck during the exchange of gunfire.

Two of the three occupants of the Accord were arrested, Capote said, and two guns were recovered.

Meanwhile, the woman and two children were taken to Homestead Hospital, where they were listed in good condition.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
