Kamaron Mathis, 25, faces charge of aggravated assault with deadly weapon

KEY LARGO, Fla. – A South Florida man was arrested early Wednesday after he pointed a handgun at another driver during a road rage incident in Key Largo, authorities said.

The victim called authorities at 4:40 a.m. and said that her boyfriend was driving south on U.S. Route 1 and the driver of a white van had just pointed a gun at her.

Monroe County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Becky Herrin said the woman claimed that the driver of the van had been driving erratically.

She said he pulled up beside their vehicle, almost causing her boyfriend to hit the median.

She said the driver of the van then pointed a handgun at her with his finger on the trigger.

Herrin said three Florida Highway Patrol troopers pulled over the van at the 102-mile marker.

The troopers ordered the man and his passenger out of the vehicle, where they found a loaded black Smith and Wesson 9 mm handgun, Herrin said.

Herrin said the passenger told troopers that he was sleeping during the incident and didn't know anything.

He said the gun belonged to the driver, Kamaron Mathis, 25, of Fort Lauderdale, Herrin said.

Herrin said the victims identified Mathis as the man who pointed a gun at them.

Mathis was arrested on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
