South Florida woman accused of drugging, robbing man she was dating

Witney Tolbert, 26, ordered held on $165,000 bond

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A 26-year-old woman is behind bars in Broward County after she drugged and robbed a man in his 70s whom she was dating, authorities said.

Police said Witney Tolbert drugged the man last May 17 at his Lighthouse Point home and stole about $72,000 worth of items from him, including jewelry, electronics and expensive luggage.

"His blood tested positive for alprazolam, a medication he's never taken, after drinking some wine given to him by the defendant," Judge Michael Davis said.

Authorities said Tolbert has returned $29,000 to the victim.

Tolbert is also dealing with other legal issues, including an open child abuse case in Miami-Dade County.

Local 10 News learned Thursday that Tolbert is currently living with her boyfriend and their child on South Beach.

Tolbert was previously ordered not to have contact with the child she is accused of abusing, but it was not immediately clear whether that child is the same one who is living with her in South Beach.

The judge ordered that the Department of Children and Families investigate the living situation.

"It would be completely irresponsible of this court not to have the Department of Children and Families look into whether that child is safe," Davis said.

Tolbert, who is pregnant, was ordered held on a $165,000 bond and was ordered to have no contact with the victim in the case.

She faces charges of larceny of $50,000 or more from a person 65 or older, battery on a person 65 or older, dealing in stolen property and culpable negligence.
