Surveillance video shows man getting stabbed in neck in North Miami Beach

Suspect remains at hospital in police custody

NORTH MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – Surveillance video obtained Tuesday by Local 10 News shows the moment a man got stabbed in the neck outside a food store in North Miami Beach.

North Miami Beach police said Donald Brown, 42, was arrested Monday on an attempted first-degree murder charge.

According to authorities, the victim was stabbed Sunday afternoon during a confrontation outside the Jiffy Food convenience store at 1540 NE 165 St.

According to an arrest report, Brown claimed that the two men first got into an argument outside a nearby cellphone store because the victim threw a glass of water in his face and "disrespected him."

Police said Brown waited for the victim to leave the food store, approached him from behind and stabbed him several times in the right side of his neck with a pocket knife.

Police said the victim ran back into the food store and someone called 911.

Authorities said Brown also went inside the store to grab his bag and then fled south before police arrived.

Witnesses said the victim, who they identified as Jamul Myers, is a father of three who didn't have any ongoing conflicts with anyone.

"He didn't bother nobody or nothing," Aletha Mitchell said.

Police said Brown was found at Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he confessed to the stabbing.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Lt. Felipe Lay said the victim was taken to Aventura Hospital, where he is listed in critical, but stable condition.

It's unclear why Brown was at JMH, but police said he remained there on Tuesday in police custody.
