Suspect arrested in connection with North Miami Beach stabbing

Victim stabbed multiple times in neck, police say

NORTH MIAMI BEACH, Fla. ā€“ A Miami manĀ has been arrested in connection with a stabbing in North Miami Beach over the weekend that left one man injured, authorities announced on Monday.

North Miami Beach police said Donald Brown, 42,Ā was arrested Monday on anĀ attempted first-degree murder charge.

According to authorities, the victim was stabbed Sunday afternoon during a confrontation outsideĀ the Jiffy Food convenience store at 1540 NE 165 St.

The store owner told Local 10 News reporter Erica Rakow that the victim had just left the store when another man approached him and stabbed him in the neck.

According to an arrest report, Brown claimed that the two men first got into an argument outside a nearby cellphone store because the victim threw a glass of water in his face and "disrespected him."

Police said Brown waited for the victim to leave the food store, approached him from behind and stabbed him several times in the right side of his neck with a pocket knife.Ā

Police said the victim ran back into the food store and someone called 911.

Authorities said Brown also went inside the store to grab his bag and then fled south before police arrived.

According to the arrest report, a witness stopped Brown in front of the cellphone store and asked him what happened.

Police said Brown told the witness that he stabbed the victim because the victim had disrespected him.Ā Ā

A woman who works at theĀ cellphone store, and who is 8 months pregnant, helped save the victim's life.

"I was terrified. I didn't know if he was going to make it, and I was scared he was going to die and I was just going to be there with him," KieraĀ Pierre-Louis said.Ā

She said she had just arrived to work when the incident happened.

"I pulled up with my husband last night and everybody was screaming thatĀ Philly, we call him, had just got stabbed. So I grabbed my blanket and reacted," Pierre-Louis said. "He was just lying right here on the floor, bleeding out."

Witnesses said the victim, who they identified as Jamul Myers,Ā is a father of three who didn't have any ongoing conflicts with anyone.

"He didn't bother nobody or nothing," Aletha Mitchell said.Ā

Detectives are still investigating what led to the attack.

"They were arguing and the guy who stabbed him poured some water on him. So after he poured water on him, he just stabbed him in the neck," Pierre-Louis said.Ā

Police said Brown was found at Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he provided detectivesĀ with a full confession.Ā

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Lt. Felipe Lay said the victim was taken to Aventura Hospital, where he is listed in critical, but stable condition.

It's unclear why Brown was at JMH, but police said he remained there on Monday inĀ police custody.Ā
