Teens accused of robbing man at gunpoint in Hialeah to stay in juvenile detention

6 teens arrested after leading police on chase that ends in crash

MIAMI ā€“ Six teenagers who are accused of armed robbery and eluding police appeared Wednesday before a Miami-Dade County judge in juvenile court.

Each teen was ordered held in secure detention, and to stay away from the victim and co-defendants.Ā

"These are dangerous people who committed armed robbery," Hialeah police Sgt. Carl Zogby said.

Jeremiah Brunson, 16, Rahkem James, 17, and Jaida McMillian, 16, were arrested Tuesday morning along with three other minors: a 15-year-old boy and two girls, ages 15 and 13.

"We don't think this is the first time they've done this," Zogby said.

Hialeah police said the group of teens robbed a man of his backpack at 1 a.m. Tuesday in front of an apartment complex at West 29th Street and Ninth Avenue.Ā

"The victim described seeing two of the males with guns," Zogby said. Ā

Police said the teens fled in a black van, crossing into Broward County. The van was later spotted by police near Hialeah Gardens before it crashed into an officer's car at Northwest 103rd Street and 80th Court, police said.

Police said all the teens confessed to their roles in the crime.

The officer suffered minor injuries in the crash.
