Thief smashes car window to steal purse outside Riverglades Elementary School

Woman captured on camera using stolen debit card at Walgreens, police say

PARKLAND, Fla. – Detectives continue to search for a thief who smashed a woman's car window in December to steal her purse, authorities said.

The incident was reported Dec. 22 outside Riverglades Elementary School in Parkland.

Broward Sheriff's Office deputies said the victim had hidden her purse so that it wasn't visible from the outside, but the burglar was still able to find it.

Authorities said a heavy-set woman was captured on surveillance video that afternoon trying to use the victim's debit card at a Walgreens on West Sunrise Boulevard.

Detectives said she also tried to use the card at another Walgreens at 1515 E. Sunrise Blvd. and at a RaceTrac gas station at 2351 W. Oakland Park Blvd.

Anyone with information about the woman's identity is asked to call Detective Robert Rutkowski at 954-753-5050 or Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS. A reward of up to $3,000 is offered for information that leads to an arrest.
