Thief tripped up by pants during getaway after car burglary

Surveillance video shows bumbling burglar botch his escape in Wellington

WELLINGTON, Fla. – One of two thieves who rummaged through an unlocked car in Wellington tripped over his own pants while trying to make his getaway.

Surveillance video released Wednesday by the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office shows the burglar bungle his escape as he ran to get back into the getaway car.

The theft was reported shortly before 4:30 a.m. at a home in the Olympia community near Forest Hill Boulevard and U.S. Highway 441.

The video shows someone get out of the car that pulls up behind the sports car parked in the driveway of the home. After discovering that the car's fly-away scissor doors are unlocked, he opens the driver's side door and begins rummaging through the car.

His getaway driver gets out and opens the passenger's side door, searching for something to steal.

Their burglary is cut short by an approaching vehicle, sending the getaway driver back behind the wheel of their getaway car.

The other burglar isn't far behind, but he trips on his pants and falls to the ground. He eventually gets into the getaway car as the crooks make their escape.

PBSO Cpl. Eric Davis said the thieves got away with a $500 stethoscope, a phone charger and some loose change.

Anyone who recognizes the duo is asked to call the PBSO.
