Thieves take unlocked Tesla for a spin in Cooper City, deputies say

COOPER CITY, Fla. – The Broward Sheriff's Office is searching for a pair of thieves who they said stole an unlocked Tesla with the key fob inside in Cooper City.

Deputies said the duo was looking for unlocked vehicles to burglarize Friday when they came upon the Tesla S P90D with the owner's wallet inside.

Authorities said the thieves took the Tesla for a spin and abandoned it in Fort Lauderdale.

Surveillance video at a 7-Eleven in Plantation shows a man making a purchase a few hours later with the victim's credit card.

Detectives said the man arrived at the convenience store with another man who was wearing a light green T-shirt. They said it's unclear whether the second man played a role in the car theft.

 

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Garvis Gainey at 954-435-2200. Anonymous tips can be made by calling Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS. A reward of up to $3,000 is offered for information that leads to an arrest.
