FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A vehicle that fatally struck a tourist earlier this month in Fort Lauderdale belongs to a prominent South Florida coach, according to an accident report.
Miguel Soler, 58, was killed July 1 in the hit-and-run crash after pulling over to take a photo in front of a Fort Lauderdale Beach welcome sign off Las Olas Boulevard.
The vehicle suspected in the crash was recovered nearby.
According to an accident report, the Ford Escape belongs to former Nova Southeastern University coach and current Broward College women's soccer Coach Michael Goodrich.
"The vehicle was not reported stolen, and the vehicle was not stolen. So I would say that is a fair deduction that he would know who had possession of his vehicle on that particular day," the Soler family's attorney, Robert Pelier, said.
An attorney for the Soler family told Local 10 News reporter Derek Shore on Friday that they are seeking justice, despite police not yet announcing who they believe was behind the wheel.
Shore knocked on the door of Goodrich's home Friday, but no one answered, despite cars being parked in the driveway.
An attorney for Goodrich would only send his condolences to the Soler family.
Soler's half-sister spoke to Local 10 News shortly after the incident and had a message for whoever was behind the wheel.
"Own up to it," Ana Maria Solis said. "Own up to it. You take yourself to the police station and you say you committed the crime."
No one is facing charges at this time. The hit-and-run remains under investigation.
