MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A viewing was held Friday for an 8-year-old girl who was shot in the head outside a home in northwest Miami-Dade.
Jada Page was declared brain dead after she was struck Aug. 28 in a drive-by shooting while she was standing outside a home on Northwest 25th Avenue.
She died days later at Jackson Memorial Hospital.
Jada's aunt, Lori Hadley Davis, owns the funeral home where loved ones gathered to say their goodbyes to the child that was taken from them too soon.
"That's where the hard part comes in," Hadley Davis said. "I do this everyday for a living, but when it hits your home it's just a grief that is unbearable. I mean, I cried overnight preparing her for this day and I can't even explain it. It hurts so bad."
Jada's father, James Page, 32, was shot multiple times in the upper torso and remains hospitalized in critical condition.
Relatives said Jada, who had just started fourth grade at Sea Castle Elementary in Miramar, was getting ready to go to the movies when she was shot.
She will be buried in bedazzled emoji sneakers, which she asked her mother to buy her for her ninth birthday. Loved ones said the funeral home and hearse were also decorated with the emojis that Jada loved.
No arrests have been made.
Jada's funeral is scheduled for Saturday.
Her mother, Rosalind Dominique Brown, has created a GoFundMe page to raise money to go toward a reward for whoever turns in the people responsible for the drive-by shooting.
