Woman fraudulently takes more than $63K from state program, FDLE says

Andrea Velandia received money for 10 students who weren't enrolled at school

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – A 37-year-old woman from Coral Springs was arrested Tuesday on a grand theft charge, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement reported.

Andrea Velandia was arrested after the FDLE received a complaint in May from the Office of Inspector General that alleged Velandia, owner of World Academy of Learning, was receiving Florida Tax Credit subsidies through Step Up For Students  for 10 students who were not actually enrolled at the school, authorities said.
