Young men throw firework inside Deerfield Beach Wendy's, scaring employees

No injuries reported

DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. – A group of young men threw a firework inside a Wendy's restaurant July 5 in Deerfield Beach, authorities said.

The incident was reported just before 10 p.m. at the Wendy's at 355 W. Hillsboro Blvd.

Broward Sheriff's Office deputies said an employee was sitting at a table near the entrance when one of the males opened the front door and threw a firework inside.

Authorities said the group of eight to 10 males then ran away through the parking lot.

Surveillance video shows red sparks flying before a larger flare scares the worker away.

Deputies said smoke filled the restaurant as workers were seen trying to figure out what happened.

The Roman Candle-type firework caused a roughly 7-inch hole in the base of the wall, deputies said.

No injuries were reported.

"We are very grateful that no one was injured, and the damage to the restaurant was minimal," the restaurant's general manager said in a statement to Local 10 News. "We continue to work with local law enforcement as they conduct their investigation."

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Detective Devoune Williams at 954-321-4235 or Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
