New Cuban channel debuts exclusively on DishLATINO

Channel to feature popular telenovelas, children's shows, movies, music videos

MIAMI – Dish and Sling TV are launching a new channel that will bring Cuban movies and television shows to the U.S.

Miami-based CUBAMAX TV will be the first channel in the U.S. to provide a variety of programs such as telenovelas, movies, children's shows and music videos by Cuban artists.

"I think this is very simply a window into the culture and arts of Cuba," DishLATINO Vice President Alfredo Rodriguez said.

The goal is to connect customers with their culture, heritage and language. But don't expect any politics.

"That's not our business," Rodriguez said. "Our business is to bring customers what they want, and what they've told us is that they're very curious about what culturally is being sort of shown and produced in Cuba, and that's what we're bringing them."

One of the featured shows on the network will be "Vivir del Cuento," one of the most popular shows in Cuba. The show stars an 80-year-old retired man named Panfilo, played by actor and comedian Luis Silva, who jokes about his life struggles.

Panfilo appeared in two sketches with President Barack Obama tied to his visit earlier this year.

CUBAMAX TV is available beginning Thursday exclusively on DishLATINO.
