DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Shortly after Damion Haywood got fired on his 40th birthday, he set fire to the house and truck belonging to his former boss, police said.

Daytona Beach police said Willie Irven, 79, told them he fired Haywood on Tuesday for always showing up for work "high."

A witness told police he saw a man beating on Irven's truck with a gas can. Investigators found a shattered window and three punctured tires.

The house had also been doused with gasoline and set on fire, but authorities said it didn't spread because the house has asbestos siding.

Police said Haywood confessed to starting the fire and damaging the truck.

Haywood has been arrested 23 times since 1998, serving prison time twice. He remains jailed on $25,000 bail.
