Davie Fire Department rescues man trapped in construction equipment

Firefighters free worker in about 50 minutes

DAVIE, Fla. – The Davie Fire Department rescued a man Friday who was stuck inside a piece of construction equipment.

Sky 10 was above the 1800 block of Southwest 115th Avenue at 11:30 a.m. and saw firefighters helping the man, who appeared to be stuck from his waist down.

A Davie Fire Department representative said at least a dozen firefighters were involved in the extrication of the worker, who was stuck in a bobcat that was partially submerged in water.

According to authorities, the man, who is between 20-30 years old, was ejected from the bobcat and became trapped between the bucket and frame of the equipment.

It was difficult for crews to reach him because both the machinery and the man were submerged under 6-8 inches of water, rescuers said.

Authorities said they had to lift the bobcat to reach the worker, who was conscious and speaking to firefighters as they worked to free him.

Firefighters pulled the worker from the equipment shortly after 12 p.m., about 50 minutes after the man became stuck.

He was taken to a nearby field by ambulance and was then airlifted to Broward Health Medical Center. He suffered injuries to his lower body and is listed in serious condition.

A man who lives in the area said the victim was working at a vacant home that is undergoing renovations.
