Dog killed, women attacked by American bulldogs in Hollywood

Owner of American bulldogs issued 6 citations

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – Two women were hospitalized and a dog was killed after a mauling early Friday morning in Hollywood.

Two American bulldogs went on the attack as the women walked a terrier in a trailer park along Buchanan Street about 1 a.m.

The terrier was killed. Both women were bitten and taken to Memorial Regional Hospital.

One of the dogs, Daisy, is a 9-year-old American bulldog. She was captured and returned to her owner, Ricky Swearengin. The other dog, Duke, is 7-year-old American bulldog. He ran away but was later found.

Swearengin, who wasn't home at the time, said his dogs are trained to hunt but have never attacked a person before.

"I don't know what they did to him to cause him to turn on them," Swearengin said.

Christine Bradford and another woman were walking Bradford's dog when their neighbor's dogs ran out of Swearengin's home and attacked, killing the terrier.

Bradford's husband ran outside after he heard the commotion.

"My dog was laying dead," Robert Bradford recalled.

Christine Bradford suffered injuries to her hands, leg and arm.

"I'm sorry that it all happened," Swearengin said. "I'm sorry (for) her pet that she lost."

Swearengin was issued six citations.

GoFundMe page was created to help pay for the women's medical bills.
