Dog requires stitches after owner says groomer in Aventura cut pet

Owner claims groomer landed her dog in animal hospital

AVENTURA, Fla. – "I don't know how anyone would feel if they saw their animal like this after going in for a grooming," said Penny Brunet.

Friday was far from the day Brunet imagined. She walked her dog, Chanel, into a PetSmart in Aventura for a day of pampering.

"Wash, shave, just to give her a little spa day," said Brunet, "but it was a total butcher. I don't know how you can do this to a little animal."

She said Chanel is in pain and extremely uncomfortable with 10 stitches, a cone around her head, and a bandaged front leg where the catheter was.

But how did her 10-year-old dog go from the grooming department to the vet?

"They were telling me that my dog was rushed into the vet," she said. "The groomers said that she just moved, but I could understand one nick on one leg, not both legs and this deep."

Now Brunet, who lives in Canada, is stuck in South Florida unable to fly because of her dog's condition, hoping in 10 days everything will be OK.

"This is a family member," said Brunet. "The groomer was still grooming other dogs after this incident. There was no reprimand. So this could be anybody's pet."

A spokeswoman for PetSmart said the incident is under investigation. She said the health and safety of their pets is their top priority and they will evaluate what and if they could have done anything better.
