NEW YORK - A dog that had been missing from its New Jersey home since July 4th was found on the George Washington Bridge -- connecting NYC and New Jersey -- and brought to back to safety by Port Authority police officers.

Charlie, a 10-year-old shepherd, reportedly ran away from home after he was spooked by the sound of fireworks.

On Thursday, police were notified that a dog had been seen on the catwalk on the bridge.

After he was rescued, Charlie was taken to an animal hospital where veterinarians determined he had a possible run in with a skunk during his adventure.

He has since been reunited with his owner.
