It's time to abolish South Florida's Express Lanes

MIAMI – Is it time for state lawmakers to put the brakes on express lanes that continue to frustrate drivers on South Florida highways?

For over two years, Local 10 has shined a light on the numerous failures of the express lanes that were built to decrease traffic congestion, but have done anything but.

Despite the assurances of a smoother commute by transportation engineers, traffic on I-95 remains a headache at all hours of the day throughout Miami-Dade and Broward.

What's worse, law enforcement authorities say express lanes present a danger to officers who are forced to cite drivers on lanes not much wider than a small car.

While express lanes bring in extra revenue for Florida, they do nothing to better the lives of residents and, it could be said, they only make things worse.

However, a bill is currently making its way through the state legislature to abolish express lanes for the good of everyone. Local 10 urges you to contact your local representative and let them know that you support those efforts.
