Ex-girlfriend never thought Pedro Bravo capable of murder

Erika Friman at center of love triangle that ended with murder of UF freshman

PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. – A South Florida woman who was at the center of a love triangle that led Pedro Bravo to kill his best friend while they were away at college said she never thought her ex-boyfriend was capable of murder.

In an interview with ABC News, Erika Friman described how she went to the Gainesville Police Department with Bravo on the day that her boyfriend, Christian Aguilar, disappeared in September 2012.

"Honestly, we even walked into the police station and I still didn't think Pedro was capable of doing something so horrendous," Friman told ABC News.

Bravo, 20, was convicted of first-degree murder and six other counts in the death of the 18-year-old University of Florida freshman. He was sentenced to life in prison after being found guilty last Friday.

Friman said Bravo, whom she dated while attending Doral Academy with Aguilar, "never seemed violent." However, Friman claimed she kept her relationship with Aguilar from Bravo because he seemed depressed and she didn't know how he would react.

Prosecutor Brian Kramer portrayed Bravo as having an "obsession" with Friman, so much so that he moved to Gainesville and concocted a plot to kill Aguilar so he could get her back.

Aguilar's body was found three weeks after he was reported missing. His body was found partially buried in a remote field.

Bravo testified during the trial, admitting that he and Aguilar had a fight, but he denied killing him.

However, damning evidence that was presented during the trial included a detailed journal in which Bravo professed his love for Friman and called himself a "monster" for hurting Aguilar.

Friman testified against her ex-boyfriend and read from the journal aloud to the jurors.

Hear more of what Friman had to say about her love for Aguilar and what's next for her during the complete "20/20" interview Friday at 10 p.m. on Local 10.
