FEMA website removes low water, electricity statistics in Puerto Rico

PUERTO RICO – As Puerto Rico continues its struggle to recover from the devastation caused by Hurricane Maria, the Federal Emergency Management Agency made a puzzling move by pulling important statistics off its website.

As of Thursday, statistics showing how much water and electricity was accessible to island residents was no longer available on the FEMA website.

The Washington Post reports that just half of Puerto Ricans had drinking water, while only 5 percent of the island had electricity on Wednesday.

The only current statistics on the FEMA site show how many federal workers are currently in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

A FEMA spokesperson told the Post that water and electricity statistics are now available on a website operated by the Puerto Rican governor, but refused to say why they are no longer on the FEMA page.

During his visit to Puerto Rico on Tuesday, President Trump only referenced statistics about grocery stores reopening and highways being cleared as evidence that the island is recovering quickly, and that the media is not telling the truth about current conditions.
