Firefighters contain 70% of Collier County wildfire after more than 1,730 acres burn

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. — The Florida Forest Service reported the Picayune Strand State Forest fire had burned more than 1,730 acres and remained active on Wednesday night.

The fire, which started on Monday, prompted evacuations that were lifted at noon on Wednesday. Shortly after 4:15 p.m., FFS reported that 70% of the fire had been contained.

Firefighters with the North Collier Fire Control & Rescue District and the Greater Naples Fire Rescue District, deputies with the Collier County Sheriff’s Office, and troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol were also assisting FFS.
