Owner charged with animal cruelty

HOMESTEAD, Fla. – The Miami-Dade Agricultural Patrol seized eight starved and emaciated horses Sunday in southwest Miami-Dade County.

Officials said six thoroughbreds and two quarter horses, which all scored a 1 on the body condition scale, were turned over to the South Florida Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

The owner of the horses has been arrested on charges of animal cruelty.

Officials said one of the horses is likely pregnant.
