AA workers choose flag tail for their airplanes

Vote over the livery was close

MIAMI – By a narrow vote, American Airlines workers have decided which logo will grace the tails of their airplanes.

The workers chose the flag logo which was first unveiled in Jan. 2013.

There were 60,418 total votes in the company-wide vote.

31,355 chose the flag tail, while 29,063 picked the AA tail.

"It was very close but the majority has spoken and the new flag tail will proudly represent American Airlines," said CEO Doug Parker.

The company must now paint 539 American planes, 300 US Airways planes and 280 US Airways Express jets with the new look.

The merger between American and US Airways became official in Dec. 2013. The new company became the world's largest air carrier.
