LAUDERHILL, Fla. - The first round of absentee ballots were mailed out by the Broward County Elections Department on Tuesday.

Elections officials say 114,000 ballots will arrive in mailboxes in the next few days.

"We push absentee ballots as a way of convenience for voters," said Elections Supervisor Dr. Brenda Snipes.

The number of requests is up from the 2008 presidential election. Election officials expect greater voter turn out as well.

"This is the first drop of absentees. We will be sending them out until Election Day," Snipes added.

Sample ballots will be mailed out on October 15th. Voters have until October 31st to request an absentee ballot through the mail.

Last week, Miami-Dade County mailed out its absentee ballots.
