FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - A former law partner of convicted Ponzi schemer Scott Rothstein was sentenced Friday morning to 30 months in prison.

Russel Adler pleaded guilty to charges of violating federal campaign finance laws in April.

Adler helped orchestrate thousands of dollars in bundled contributions from the now-defunct Rothstein Rosenfeldt Adler law firm's employees and attorneys to John McCain's 2008 campaign for president and former Gov. Charlie Crist's U.S. Senate bid in 2010. The contributions were illegally reimbursed by the law firm.

Adler faced a maximum of five years in prison. Rothstein is serving 50 years in prison for a $1.2 billion scam involving investments in fake legal settlements.
