JetBlue flight bound for FLL returns after takeoff

Passengers smelled smoke shortly after flight left Jamaica

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - A JetBlue flight that took off from Jamaica's Norman Manley International Airport headed to Fort Lauderdale Hollywood-International Airport returned after passengers and crew said they smelled smoke.

The plane returned about 15 minutes after takeoff Monday evening.

Flight 8076 had 98 passengers on board. JetBlue said six people who were on the plane were evaluated by paramedics but did not say why. 

Maintenance staff and officials inspected the plane.

Those 98 passengers were expected to arrive Tuesday afternoon.
