SOUTHWEST RANCHES, Fla. – A Southwest Ranches man is offering a $10,000 reward after his 3-month-old capuchin monkey was stolen from his home last Thursday.
Carl Minx said he spent years saving money and getting the proper training and permits with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission to adopt Henry.
"He's not just a pet. He's really a family member," Minx said Monday.
Minx said Henry is like a child to him.
"He's very intelligent. It's like having a toddler in the house," Minx said.
Minx said he and his partner went out to dinner in Fort Lauderdale on Thursday and left Henry at home. While out, they posted a photo on Facebook.
Minx believes he knows the thief and the Facebook post tipped off the person that Henry was home alone.
The thief entered the home sometime between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Thursday through a bedroom window. Nothing else was taken, said Jamie Katz, a private investigator hired by Minx.
Minx -- an animal lover who has owned other exotic animals in the past -- is concerned for Henry's welfare. Minx was feeding Henry a special diet with a bottle before the monkey was taken.
"No one knows what his diet is," Minx said. "He won't eat just anything. He prefers it a certain way."
Minx had hoped to train Henry to be therapy animal to help disabled people, but now he just wants to be reunited with his friend.

Katz said they were willing to work with the tipster to ensure the monkey's safe return.
"We just want Henry back," Katz said.
